Sue Daynes, who teaches English and drama at Wymondham College, plans to open Noah’s Ark children’s nursery.

The mother-of-one was inspired to set up her own venture following the birth of her son, Noah, a year ago.

“I have been teaching for seven years and I will miss it dreadfully. But finding child care has been impossible with my job and my husband works abroad,” she said. “It made sense to start a nursery.”

Noah’s Ark Children’s Nursery, which will be a family-run business, will have capacity for 18 children.

Mrs Daynes said that although the nursery will be based on the college site, it will be independent from the school.

“We will be able to know each child inside out. It will be a personal nursery.

“Wymondham College is a boarding school and we work one in three Saturdays. If the demand is there, we will open on Saturdays, too.

“I originally qualified to teach post-compulsory education including degree level. I have worked at Wymondham College for seven years and so by opening a nursery, I will cover all angles.”

Mr Daynes said her nursery would combine life skills with early years learning practices.

“We have got a large plot where we intend to grow vegetables,” she said. “Our nursery manager is very good at home cooking. She will be cooking and showing the children how to bake – a lot of nurseries don’t offer that. We will have an emphasis on the great outdoors.

“When I was looking around for a place to take Noah, I felt that many didn’t offer extra skills.”

The 32-year-old, who lives in Hardingham, with her husband, Tom, who works abroad with a race team, added: “We are definitely a nursery with a difference. I hope people will trust a new nursery with different ideas.”
